How clean is your house? Cleaning inspiration.

Whenever I start to feel bad about the state of my house.. I watch an episode of “How clean is your house?”  It acts as a kick start to make me want to clean everything up, even if I’m feeling slothful (I don’t want my house to ever look like that.  And it always makes me feel better, because I realise that there are people out there with much, much worse houses than mine will ever be.   Anyways.. I found some episodes on Youtube.. so for your viewing pleasure, today we check out the (tiny) house of a lady with 4 kids. … Read entire article »

OMGWTF …in mason jars

OMGWTF …in mason jars

Apparently the latest thing is to make things in glass jars called “Mason Jars”. Which are basically bottling jars. If you follow through on this idea, you could end up with a refrigerator that looks like this (Found on a site called Big Red Kitchen): Which is… pretty frightening, really. Now the fact of the matter is.. I can’t see any evidence … Read entire article »

When your new LED LCD screen has been used as a canvas

We have (had???) a new LED LCD TV screen.  Until Junior1 decided to draw on it with a ball point pen.  Mr Martha wanted to go and buy an expensive cleaner for it.. “but no!” I cried.. “the internets will help!”  And so they did.. here are the tips I found for cleaning an LED LCD screen around the web: CRAYON:  Apparently WD40 works a charm on getting crayon drawings off LED LCD screens.  If you try this, let me know. BALL POINT PEN: Hairspray on a soft cloth got this off for me.  I was amazed at how well it worked, actually!  Rubbing alcohol also works on a larger area.. try a test patch first. {organise} Battery cases

Checked the mailbox today to find my latest little organiser project – battery cases.  If you are anything like us, you may have a spot for them, but they still rattle around and don’t really fit anywhere neatly. Anyway, I bought some battery cases off ebay.  The batteries fit in them really well, and I can easily see what we do and don’t have.  We use rechargables, so it’s going to be an easy task to just throw the flat ones in the charger and then on into the cases when they are ready to go again. It feels good to open the draw and not have them all rattling around in there!  They did take a … Read entire article »

{decor} Soap Dispensers, an easy bathroom lift

This is a quick and easy decorating project that can really give your bathroom/kitchen/laundry and instant lift.   You are, in effect, creating yourself a blank canvas you can transform any way you like.  What I like about this is that you can just buy the bits and pieces and throw it all together – no gluing, no cutting, no sticking and max. Martha Points.  Very easy.  Yep, this idea fakes it pretty well. So first off – you need a clear cube soap dispenser.   I picked up a couple in Domayne today for $9.95, Freedom Furniture also has them (according to their website) and you can get them at Always on Sale, too, for $8. Then you … Read entire article »

Christmas in Review – Part 1

Christmas in Review – Part 1

Back in the old project management days, once a project was finished, we’d hold a meeting with our team to review how it went.  This was called an “Implementation Review” or  less formally a “Lessons Learned” meeting, and if it had been a particularly killer project (long hours, things going awry etc.) it was even jokingly called an “autopsy”.   And … Read entire article »

Why Flylady doesn’t work for me.. and what does.

Why Flylady doesn’t work for me.. and what does.

I love Flylady.. she really has helped me keep my house neater and tidier… but it still doesn’t look company-ready much of the time and I have no routines whatsoever.  Over the last few days I’ve been wondering why I can’t seem to get into the flylady jive.. why her system doesn’t seem to be a good fit for me, … Read entire article »

Chic Ideas For Organizing Small Rooms

Chic Ideas For Organizing Small Rooms

Small rooms conjure up visions of coziness and a sense of hominess, until, like us, you live in a small home that feels neither cozy or homey… it just feels kinda’ squished..  although I’m sure Martha would make the most of it… and that’s what I’m writing about today.  Obviously, when you live in a small space, organizing it can … Read entire article »
